Cannabinoids are the compounds which are naturally found in the hemp plant. There are hundreds of different compounds present in the plants, but not all are cannabinoids. Cannabinoids have the specific characteristic of interacting with receptors on our cells, mostly in our brains and nervous systems. There are different types, or classes, of cannabinoids. Cannabidiol, which accounts for about 40% of the resin extract of a plant, is one class. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is another.
Hemp stands for Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is one of the classes of cannabinoids. It is extracted from the hemp plant. We do this using the industry-leading method of CO2extraction ensuring the oil extracted is pure and not contaminated with other compounds from the plant, farming or manufacturing process. This process also enables our Hemp oil to only have trace readings of THC <0.2% or 0% THC.
Cannabidiol (Hemp) is the substance of interest, in terms of health and wellbeing, in the industrial hemp plant. Within the plant, it is the primary cannabinoid which brings the benefits without the unwanted side effects of being psychoactive. In chemical terms its formula is C21H30O2.
Hemp is just one of dozens of compounds which occur naturally in hemp and are part of the cannabinoid group. It should not be confused with another naturally occurring compound, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) which is psychoactive – the compound which gets you ‘high’. Instead Hemp is not psychoactive.
Hemp oil is used as a nutritional supplement to help promote health and wellbeing. It is important to note that the purity and cleanliness of the individual oil (determined by farming and manufacturing processes) will, largely, determine whether the chosen product brings the benefits you expect.
The legal restrictions on Hemp oil depend on your country, and sometimes on the different rules in different areas of that country. However, generally speaking, Hemp oil is, by and large completely legal and can be sold wholesale to you for you to distribute. It is legal in the UK. Hemp oil should not contain above-trace levels of the psychoactive compound THC and therefore will not get you ‘high’ like a narcotic. All Prolong Hemp oil products are guaranteed to have less than 0.2% THC and 1mg of THC per container or 0% THC, please see products.
The ECS refers to the system of cannabinoid receptors which are found within the mammalian brain and nervous systems, as well as other organs. This includes in humans. These receptors (and their associated lipids) are able to deal with the endocannabinoids which are produced naturally in the brain and elsewhere in the body. Typically, this system is associated with cognition, memory, pleasure and coordination. It’s this system which allows us to make use of Hemp oil.
We ensure that our processes result in pure Hemp oil with THC levels below 0.2%. When drug tests are administered, one of the substances they are testing for is THC. This would be found in your urine or blood if you used marijuana. Even in the event that trace amounts of THC show up in a basic frontline drug testing screen, you would then be required to undergo a more thorough Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) test. These tests will not show Hemp.
No. Our Hemp oil is non-psychoactive and will not result in you feeling ‘high’ or cognitively impaired. This is because our Seed to Product process ensures that only tiny amounts of THC (the ‘high’ inducing compound) are present in the oil. We have >99.5% Hemp Purity. Some of our products are entirely THC-free. Please browse our Products for individual product listings.
CO2extraction is the best, yet most expensive, process for extracting the Hemp from the hemp plant. It uses pressurised CO2, which can be used at a relatively low temperature, to extract the Hemp oil without drawing out other elements of the plant, or any toxins from the farming or manufacturing process. As such, it is the cleanest and most efficient extraction process. You can find out more on our Quality Guarantee page.
As with all products, some individuals may experience side effects. These are rare but may include fatigue or nausea. Hemp is also known to increase the levels of some medications in your blood in the same way that grapefruit juice does. The biggest concern regarding Hemp oil is that you are using pure Hemp oil, not contaminated with any toxins, pesticides or heavy metals. In a largely unregulated industry, you need to do your own research for this. When you choose Prolong Hemp oil products, you can be sure that our entire process, from Seed to Product, is completely safe.
Hemp oil is not psychoactive. However, it is an unregulated industry and not all producers use CO2extraction methods or have the same integrity as we do at Prolong. Therefore, some ‘Hemp oil’ labelled products contain high levels of the psychoactive compound THC. This is the main reason you need to choose your Hemp oil for retail carefully.
The legal status of a particular Hemp oil product depends on the country you are in and on the breakdown of components in the individual product. Prolong Hemp oil products are made solely using Hemp , with under 0.2% THC. Our Hemp oils are legal in the UK.

There is still research being done, and needs to be done, to enable us to fully understand the benefits of Hemp oil.
At the moment Hemp oil should be described as a dietary supplement, not a medication. Research has shown that it works to alleviate symptoms of certain types of epilepsy and many people, our founders included, have reported its other wide ranging benefits. These include alleviation of chronic pain symptoms associated with illnesses such as arthritis and Fibromyalgia as well as mental health concerns such as anxiety.
Because the industry is not clearly regulated, it is vital that retailers protect their consumers by choosing the highest quality Hemp oil products.

On each of our Products you will find detailed information about the individual make-up of that product. You will also find information about how that specific product should be used.
The most common way to use Hemp oil is sublingually, otherwise known as orally, ideally under the tongue. This is because this method speeds and maximises the absorption. Regular daily use is typically recommended, building up the amount you use over time. Sometimes Hemp oil may be used externally, directly on the skin.
This process uses pressurised carbon dioxide to extract the Hemp from the hemp plant. It is described as Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) and, in this instance, the ‘fluid’ is CO2which works at relatively low temperatures, thereby retaining the integrity of the oil. It does this in a non-harmful way because, at set temperatures, it takes on the role of a solvent, without actually using any harsh solvent chemicals.
It is not a cheap extraction method and therefore many manufacturers choose a different option, such as cold-pressing. However, it is the safest and most efficient and effective method for ensuring the oil extracted is of the purest quality. Additionally, because the oil doesn’t subsequently have to be purified (as would be the case if other parts of the plant were also extracted), it is also a considerably faster as a process.
There are many additional benefits of using CO2extraction. Most notably, this is an eco-friendly process. It is the process to get the cleanest cannabinoids from the hemp plant. This is vital because the hemp plant has the ability to absorb contamination from its soil, including heavy metals and toxins. What’s more, by using CO2extraction compared to other methods, nearly all of the valuable Hemp oil is extracted, with minimal wastage.
